Database to App: Turning Existing Data Into a Modern Business Platform

SQL dump, Access file, or old ERP export — turn it into a modern, multi-user web platform.

You already have the data. It is sitting in a PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or even MS Access database that someone built years ago. Reports come out of it weekly, but nobody outside IT can interact with it. Building a modern web application on top of an existing database is one of the highest-ROI projects we deliver — typically $3,000 to $15,000, shipped in 2 to 6 weeks.

Why this is different from a greenfield build

The hardest, most expensive part of any software project is designing the data model. When the data model already exists and works, you skip 30 to 40% of the cost. What you are paying for is:

  • A modern UI on top of the data
  • Authentication and roles
  • Validation and business rules the old system never enforced
  • A clean API
  • Optional AI assistant on top of your records

This is what we package as Database to App.

Typical scenarios

  • Legacy MS Access database — 15 years of accumulated records, single-user front end, time to modernize. See also our Legacy Modernization guide.
  • Internal Postgres used only via DBA queries — You want non-technical staff to read and write
  • Operational database with no UI — Built by a data team for reports, now needs a workflow tool
  • Multiple databases that need to be combined — One UI, one source of truth

What we deliver

  1. Read-only audit of your schema (1 to 2 days)
  2. Proposed cleanups and new fields
  3. Modern web UI: list, search, filter, edit, export
  4. Roles and row-level permissions
  5. Authentication with SSO option
  6. Audit log of every change
  7. Optional: AI assistant trained on your records

What stays the same

Your database. We do not migrate it unless you ask. The new app talks to the existing database, so reports, BI tools, and integrations keep working unchanged. If a migration later makes sense, it is a separate phase.

Pricing

  • Single-table app with list, edit, export — $3,000 to $5,000
  • Multi-table CRUD with roles and dashboard — $5,000 to $12,000
  • Internal platform with workflows, notifications, and AI search — $12,000 to $30,000

If your data lives in spreadsheets instead of a database, see Excel to web app.
